It doesn’t take a huge leap to make literally any of Taylor Swift’s songs pop punk or even metalcore. Swift’s universally relatable lyrics easily lend themselves to a plethora of different genres.
It’s no secret her catalogue is a go-to for emotional drives, breakups, shower concerts and most recently, Match.com commercials starring the Devil himself. After all, what is more metal than the Devil?
If all of the above isn’t convincing enough that Swift can fit seamlessly into the pop punk, rock and metal arenas, take a listen to our list of the top five alternative Taylor Swift covers below:
1. Blank Space- I Prevail
Let’s all agree that “Blank Space” was iconic in every way. From the cinematic masterpiece of a video where Swift plays an unhinged and scorned woman slashing Dorian Gray-esque portraits to the cutthroat lyrics, this song was just waiting to become a darker version of itself and I Prevail delivers in a big way with their rendition of the song.
2. Look What You Made Me Do- Our Last Night
Post-Hardcore outfit Our Last Night has been churning out covers recently, but their version of this track from Swift’s Reputation really hits it out of the park. Not to mention the amazing cover art they created for the single, which mirrors the theme from Swift’s album.
3. Betty- Cabeau
Not only did this jam performed by Cabeau go viral on Tiktok and currently has over 260,000 likes on the platform, it’s a total pop punk bop.
4. Bad Blood- Silence the City
“Band-Aids don’t fix bullet holes.” If there was ever a lyric begging to be turned into a rock song, it’s that one and Silence the City does just that. With raspy powerhouse vocals, this song is definitely headbanging material.
5. I Knew You Were Trouble- We Came as Romans
Appearing on Punk Goes Pop Vol. 6, this cover could stand alone as a metalcore song. We Came as Romans made this song completely their own with heavy drums and amplified guitar solos.
