Australian pop-rockers 5 Seconds of Summer released their new single “Easier” via Interscope Records today. The song is launching the band into the era of their 4th album, which is starting off as a bit of a darker departure from the band’s previous projects. “Easier” talks about the feeling of running away from a problem in a relationship, which always begs the question of “Is it easier to stay? Is it easier to go?”. 5 Seconds of Summer wrote the song with a new set of co-writers, including Charlie Puth and Ryan Tedder.
In addition to the song’s release, the band dropped a music video for the song, which is a dark representation of the song. The video primarily focuses on the band playing in a dark cave, surrounded by candles. Most of the shots show lead singer Luke Hemmings tied up in the cave. The moody video perfectly compliments the song’s story and the symbolism it displays for the feelings of being tied down or drowned in a relationship are stunning.
