Australian Pop-Rock band 5 Seconds of Summer shared the music video for “Wildflower” with fans earlier this week. The song was pulled from the bands fourth studio album Calm, which was released last month via Interscope Records.
With the help from their Creative Director Andy Deluca, the 5SOS boys filmed the video in its entirety while in quarantine. The video has a fun, colorful, retro feel that’s reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s. A single green screen was passed around the band members homes in Los Angeles, CA where each band member filmed themselves playing the song and dancing around. Considering the circumstances the band was working with, the video turned out great and really captured not only the essence of the song, but of the entirety of their new album. Its fun animations, psychedelic backgrounds, and bright color grading surely made the video a bright spot in the weird times we are all living in currently.
“Wildflower” is the fourth single from Calm, which was released on March 27th, and received great critical acclaim upon its release. While there was a shipping error which lead to 11,000 copies of the album being released early in the United States, the album debuted a week early at #62 on the Billboard 200 Chart, and then shot up to #2 in its second week which made it the band’s fifth top 10 album. Despite the error, in its second week Calm was the top-selling album during its official release week, selling 133,000 album-equivalent units.
As of right now, the band is still planning on heading out on tour later this year in support of Calm. Their current tour dates can be found on their website. Follow 5 Seconds of Summer on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up-to-date on tour updates and forthcoming releases.
